It was a great start to the week here at Spacehive. Our Monday morning was spent with Sadiq Kahn in Haringey at Tottenham Café Connect to mark the official launch of the Crowdfund London programme 2019.

Our host, Leyla Laksari, is a Spacehive superstar having led two successful campaigns to turn the space from a disused bowling club into a thriving community hub. Over three hundred backers have pledged to the campaigns, including Spacehive partners Veolia and the Mayor of London.

The Mayor announced that he will be making a fresh wave of pledges to projects across the city this Spring:

“We want to harness the entrepreneurial spirit our city is famous for and apply it to the challenges and opportunities faced by communities across the capital, so I urge anyone with a creative project to apply to this year’s crowdfunding programme.”

To get involved, create your project on Spacehive and pitch to the Mayor of London by the 1st May for your chance to receive up to £50,000 to help make it happen. We’ve got plenty of guidance to support you. For starters, sign yourself up to one of the information events we’re running over the next few weeks here – there will be one happening near you whatever corner of the city you’re from!

Whether you’re joining Crowdfund London for a second time like Leyla did, or it’s your first time crowdfunding with Spacehive, the programme promises to be bigger and better than ever in 2019.

The Mayor of London’s speech captured the spirit of crowdfunding by calling upon the capital’s companies to come forward and contribute towards people-powered regeneration projects:

“I’m also calling on businesses to join me in supporting these brilliant projects, which enable our city’s diverse communities to play an active role in shaping the future of their local areas.”
